The Week Ahead - Term 4, Week 1
Monday 7 October to Friday 10 October 2019
From the Head of College
Well, the end of another school term is upon us. It has been a wonderful journey and I acknowledge and thank our parents and extended families for your support of all students, and the learning and teaching programs at Concordia. You are appreciated!
Non-State Schools Accreditation Board (NSSAB)
I would like to pass on my thanks to all of our staff for their commitment and dedication to the work that is being done across all campuses. Yesterday, we successfully completed the NSSAB six year registration process. It has been quite a journey over the past twelve months; however, the closing commentary from the external validator and the external observers was overwhelmingly positive. The registration process confirms that we are on the right trajectory across all of our educational programs, and with our procedures, policies and protocols. Thank you to our staff for their work in updating or preparing everything from ‘scope and sequence curriculum documents’ to WHS policies. This is affirmation that we, together, are achieving great things in our school. Congratulations, one and all!
Overseas Experience for Concordia Students
We have been offered opportunities for our students at Stephen Street Campus to be engaged in cultural exchanges to Wuxi, China and/or Buenos Aires, Argentina in the coming years. No details, dates or costings have been determined yet; however, we are looking to see whether there is an ‘appetite’ for such tours in the years ahead. A very brief survey will help us determine our next move and I would encourage parents or guardians with students in Years 5 to 11 to spend a few minutes to help with our planning going forward. Please provide us with your feedback by completing the survey.
The last few weeks have proven to be frenetic, and a broad thank you from me goes to those who were heavily involved in the organisation of the Year 6 Canberra tour, Brisbane Music Tour, Reformation Race, Makerspace, Individuals of Eminence, Stephen Street Campus Swimming Carnival, constant upgrades on TASS and the LMS, Marketing campaigns - and the list goes on and on. It has been busy and most rewarding, and now it is time for rest and relaxation.
May God bless you and every family over the coming weeks. Safe travel if that is what you intend to do, and I look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 8 October

Friday Sport
Last Friday saw the culmination of our primary sport fixtures for Term 3, where we participated in Hockey, Soccer and Netball at various venues. Our Concordia teams performed exceptionally well, week in and week out, with many teams playing and coming away with some great results.
Many thanks to all persons who assisted in any way each week to provide the opportunity for our students to have a game each week. These will be some of the best memories to stay with them throughout their lives of playing sport, while also having fun with their mates. Thank you.
Also, a reminder to ALL girls who are playing AFL in Term 4, you are required to wear a mouth guard as per new mandated rules, as communicated in the Friday Afternoon Sport parental permission form earlier in the year.
Rookies2Reds
The final session of the after school "Rookie to Reds" Rugby Union program was held last week at HSC. Over ten participants, aged 5-9 years from both Junior College campuses took part in the program each week. The students had a great time learning new skills and games associated with the sport. Many thanks to the parents who came along each week to support this activity. Special thanks also to David Southwood from Rugby Union Qld for delivering this program.

Term 4 Sport
Looking forward to our Term 4 sporting involvements, Concordia Lutheran College will enter teams in Term 4 Inter-School Sport in a host of sports. These will include girls AFL, boys Touch and mixed Volleyball.
Concordia will also enter a mixed team for the first time in the 2019 SWQ Primary All Schools Touch Carnival, which will see them compete against the best schools from South West Qld at Dalby on Sunday 20 October. We wish this team all the best in this experience.
Early in Term 4, Swimming nomination forms will be handed out during PE classes for students to complete. This is for students who wish to compete in a variety of events for the annual Inter-House Junior College Swimming Carnival held at the Concordia Aquatic Centre on Tuesday 19 November.
Students have been involved in swimming lessons during Term 3 with TJ’s Swim team in preparation for this event. Once nominations are received, they will be collated, and the program will be prepared for the carnival. More information will be forthcoming in Term 4 in relation to this action-packed fun day which will see our students participating against each other for their House supremacy.

Term 3 Wrap Up
Term 3’s Festival of Learning showcased the enormous amount of work that has gone into this term’s academic and STEM learning, together with learning the dynamics of working in teams. Book Week, PJ Storytime, Makerspace Day Camp, Walk My Way, PJ Day, Year 2 Spark Lab, Year 1 Lone Pine, Prep Zoo Visit, Year 3 Camp, Year 4 Amaroo, Year 6 Canberra Trip were also a few activities that provided us with some great opportunities this term. Kindy Reveal
"The wonderful Educators at the Martin Luther Kindy - initially Annie Tudor-Lynch who designed the marvellous playground - inspired me with their joy, warmth, peace, creativity and colour.
"I worked on it on and off over five years, with perhaps 26 months off project due to the complexities of life and a lack of self-belief too, to be perfectly honest. Thousands of glass tesserae [tiles], beads, ceramic tiles, marble, metals and different coloured grouts make up the piece, all glued on with pool tile glue and resin at the bottom representing flowing water.
"Its message is, no matter where you are from, 'WELCOME to your Kindy and to your education and remember to love your very special Educators - the Scripture verse paraphrased down the side reminds us Jesus' love for children is profound - Heaven is their home! So with Christ saying Heaven is for children [Kinder], it follows that Educators must be remarkable people indeed - whom we all need to hold in the highest of regard and respect. Inspired, loved and valuable to God and the world, just like the children they lead. Enjoy!"
