What an Extraordinary Evening!
This past weekend, the Concordia Lutheran College community proudly attended the Toowoomba Engage Youth Fundraising Dinner. Hosted by the Lutheran Church of Queensland, the night was filled with excitement, generosity, and amazing culinary delights prepared by our talented boarding kitchen staff.
The event featured auctions and raffle prizes, but the highlight of the night was an incredibly special gesture by former Concordia student, Mark Hensel, and his wife, Judith-Anne Kleinschmidt. They graciously purchased a stunning indigenous painting by Uncle Max Conlon that depicts the beginnings of our College and then donated it back to Concordia.
A huge thank you to Mark and Judith-Anne for their wonderful donation and to Uncle Max from Cherbourg for honouring the work of Concordia with his art. Our community is truly grateful for your support and generosity.
In further support of the Engage Lutheran Youth Ministry, prints of "The Founding of Concordia Lutheran College" painting by Uncle Max Conlon will be for sale. Details below:

HSC Parent Connect Mango Fundraiser
The Hume Street Campus Parent Connect is running the annual Mango Fundraiser. Please see below for more information and Parent Connect Mango Order Form.
Paul Morton Choral Festival
Last night, the Empire Theatre was buzzing with the sounds of 460 students signing their hearts out in the finale of the Paul Morton Festival – a very special night commemorating the life of former Downlands student Paul Morton (a committed musician/chorister), who tragically lost his life several years ago. His legacy continues on via this wonderful gathering of the finest singers and choirs from the Toowoomba Secondary School community. The whole idea centres around the choirs coming together and listening to each and supporting and celebrating their fellow singers, and this was definitely the feeling in the air, with every choir performing to thunderous applause and cheering from their peers.
Beginning with a massed Choir rehearsal in the afternoon, guest conductor and adjudicator Mrs Tess Laird took the 460 students through a rousing Swahili Folk Song of celebration and unity entitled Umoja Tunainba. Next came a combined dinner out on the Empire Theatre lawns where the students from over 12 different schools got the opportunity to gather and socialise before a fabulous concert. Many schools performed separately, with Concordia being no exception. The Choir delighted audiences with the very stirring ‘Make Them Hear You’ from the musical ‘Ragtime’ (Fun Fact – written by the same people who wrote ‘Anastasia The Musical”) and then Con Voce brought the wonderful Sting song ‘Englishman in New York’ to life and captivated the encouraging audience.
After being treated to some of Toowoomba’s best loved Secondary Choirs all emerged onto the stage for the awesome finale experience, which was truly breathtaking in sight and sound!
Thanks to Christina Marangelli for her organisation and coordination of the Concordia students and Neil Roche-Kelly (conductor) and Elizabeth Gordon (Accompanist) for the performances and rehearsing of the ensembles towards excellence. Finally, a big thank you to our hosts, Downlands College, for their incredible vision and execution of one of our favourite nights of the year.
Ready to Bloom - Soloist Concert
The Ready to Bloom Concert showcased 29 of our talented performers from across all 3 campuses on Thursday, August 29th. There was a vast representation of instruments played by performers ranging from Year 1 to Year 12 and 7 debut performers! The evening commenced with a rendition of Be Our Guest, welcoming the audience and concluded with a performance of Never Enough, which is how we feel about these enjoyable evenings.
The concert was a huge success with each performer living the College theme of “Embrace the possibilities”. This was the 3rd Solo Concert for this year, please look out for the final solo concert, Here Comes the Summer November 7.

JC Oktoberfest Raffle Hampers
The Stephen Street Campus Parent Connect is excitedly preparing for the upcoming Oktoberfest event scheduled for Saturday 19 October, from 4pm to 8pm. This event aims to not only raise funds for the college but to also provide an opportunity for the college community to come together again.

We are organising a raffle, with each Year Level putting together a hamper with a particular theme. As part of this initiative, we warmly invite each JC student to consider donating a small item for their Year Level hamper that will be raffled on the day. We wish to emphasise that this act of generosity is entirely optional, and we truly appreciate any level of support you are able to provide. Student Absences - Notifying the College
Advising the College
Please advise the College via Parent Lounge if a student is going to be absent for one or more days. This should be done prior to 8.30am on the day of the absence. If your student is absent, but you have not notified the College via Parent Lounge, you will receive an SMS notification during the morning. In this case, you need to acknowledge the absence via Parent Lounge as soon as possible.
Cancelling Bus Transport
If Inter-Campus Bus travel has been booked for your child and you wish for your child to not catch the bus for any reason, you must cancel the travel in the RollCall App. An updated Bus List is printed from RollCall every afternoon to ensure that the correct students catch the bus. If you have not updated Roll Call with an intended absence, it is likely that we will place your child on the bus as per the current RollCall travel bookings.
Cancelling Tuckshop
Please remember that if your child is away on a Tuckshop day, you will need to contact your Campus Reception by 9.00am to request a cancellation of the Tuckshop order and receive a refund.

Rugby XV Grand Finals
On Wednesday night our TAS/Concordia Rugby XV teams played their final fixtures for the season. The U15s and Opens team were both vying for 1st place after undefeated seasons and the
U13s played in the 3rd vs 4th playoff, after losing their semifinal narrowly last week.
The U13s played a tough game and came away victors 24-5 against Faith Lutheran claiming 3rd place for the season.
Our U15s were in an absolute nail-biter against St Mary’s and were unfortunate not to take the win, conceding a late penalty goal and try, and subsequently their first loss for the season, 27-20.
Our Opens continued their season dominance with a convincing win over Mary Mackillop 31-19.
Well done to all students on a terrific season. Congratulations to the Opens players on claiming first place, and an extra special congratulations to Patrick Malone who was named in the Opens XV honorary team (best 15 players in the Opens division)
