Concordia Lutheran College’s Oktoberfest is back!

Thursday 21 Nov

Following the success of last year’s event, Concordia will stage a bigger, better Oktoberfest celebration on the historic grounds of the Senior College on Saturday, October 19 from 4pm to 8pm. Oktoberfest spokesperson and Parent Connect president, Alice Prince, said anyone with an interest in the Germanic culture and fun should attend the community-centred event at the College’s Stephen Street campus. “We learnt a lot from last year’s event, and we will be returning with a greater array of traditional German activities including a wurst competition with many of our entrants using family recipes that have been in use for more than 100 years,” Mrs Prince said.

“Entertainment will include a band, student performances, activities for the kids and teens along with a multi-draw raffle with a percentage of the proceeds going towards the Toowoomba Hospice,” she said.

“Delicious German cuisine will be available at various food stalls. From bratwursts to pretzels, there will be an

assortment of dishes to satisfy every festival attendee, and the kids will even get to decorate their own biscuit.

“To wash down the food on offer there will be an array of German beers and after a few of those some may even revive the ‘chicken dance’ that took over Expo ’88 in Brisbane.”

“This year there will also be fireworks to end the night, along with a strong person competition and the Pechey Distillery Co signature Oktoberfest Gin which will be served as a cocktail.

“Oktoberfest not only honours the college’s rich German heritage, it also fosters a strong sense of community among students, staff, families and the wider community,” Mrs Prince said.

“There will also be market stalls bursting with exceptional, handcrafted treasures. From hand-painted kids’

novelty bath bombs and delightful character scrunchies to intricate polymer clay and resin earrings, there’s

something unique for everyone to discover.

“We are thrilled to provide a platform for these talented artisans to showcase their work,” she added.

Visitors can also indulge their sweet tooth with offerings like NYC-style stuffed and loaded cookies, decadent brownies, fudge, and classic rocky road.

There is handmade children’s clothing and home wares to explore that highlight the creativity of the Concordia community.

“By coming together to enjoy traditional food, music, and activities, we celebrate our shared history and values, and we invite everyone in the community to come along and have a good time,” she said.

“We hope to grow this event into the future. This year’s event has been supported by many local businesses and we are truly thankful for this support”.

“Whether you’re a fan of beer, food or simply looking for a fun day out, there will be something for everyone at Oktoberfest!”
