Toowoomba carnival season to extend into next month with Oktoberfest!

Wednesday 30 Oct

Concordia Lutheran College has announced a community-centred Oktoberfest event for October 7 in the college grounds at Stephen Street. The College teaches German as a subject and hopes the new festival will enhance the connection for students to gain a better understanding of the Germanic culture. The leading organizer for the event, Emma Pukallus, said Oktoberfest at Concordia will be a celebration of the German culture with an array of traditional German activities that will transport attendees straight to the heart of Bavaria.

“Live music performed by talented local artists will set a festive atmosphere for guests to immerse themselves in German traditions,” Mrs Pukallus said.

“Delicious German cuisine will be available at various food stalls. From bratwursts to pretzels, sauerkraut to schnitzel, there will be a delectable assortment of dishes to satisfy every festival attendee including a German bake stall, offering mouthwatering pastries and desserts.

“And to wash down the culinary delights a German beer bar will be supplying an impressive selection of traditional brews. There may even be a chance for someone to do the ‘chicken dance’ that took over Expo ’88 in Brisbane.”

Head of College Mr Anton Prinsloo said Concordia Lutheran College traces its roots back to the 16th century Reformation, led by German theologian Martin Luther and the connection is still evident today right here in Toowoomba.

Being organised by the school’s parent body, it is hoped the event will become an annual tradition, bringing together the school community and the wider public for a celebration of culture and education.

“Oktoberfest event will provide multiple entertainment options for the entire family. There will be a face painter to transform children’s faces into works of art, an animal nursery and live bands, activities and raffle draws running throughout the day.
